Our Girls Name Songs List

Ours is a list of songs, not a list of performances. It is a list of songs with a girl's name in the title or lyrics; first names, not last names, although a few are listed with both first and last names. Female names but not the names of places, cars, boats, or things. Therefore, we do not include Simon & Garfunkel’s hit song "Mrs. Robinson". Nor do we list the song called "The Road to Hana" because in that song, Hana is a town, not a woman.

No duplicates: We try to provide artist's credits for music and lyrics to distinguish it from other songs with the same name. Our list may include unusual or distinctly different interpretations, but we try not to repeat or duplicate specific songs even though there may be many artists who cover it just as well or even better than the original artist. There are other web sites listing songs with girl's names - but they often list the same song multiple times by different performers. We try to list each unique song only once and with the best representative performance, usually it's the original release by the original writer-performer. Sometimes we choose the most popular or highest charting release. You may not agree with our choices because you might like a "cover" more than the original song release. Let us know what you think; share your thoughts and suggestions.

Our Story

We are not a company or business. We are one person: me, Dennis. It's a labor of love and this web site is the result of my life-long interest in songs about girls with a certain name: a “girl’s name song”. Over the years my interest was fueled by the quality and variety of such songs: novelty songs, love songs, and songs written in honor of a loved one. This passion, some say obsession, with girl’s name songs grew and then one day, at the suggestion from a friend, I started a list of songs and posted it on my family website.

At first, the list was a simple pdf document and consisted of only fifty or so songs. That list grew and I started using a spreadsheet, and when the list was about a thousand songs I moved to a database program, exporting the data to modify and format it into the song list web page you see today.

The reason I like to say “We” and “Our” web site is that I have taken advantage of numerous suggestions and ideas from family, friends, and site visitors through emails and comments posted on the home page. So, it really is the result of input from numerous interested people. Please keep sending me your suggestions, corrections, and song ideas so that “we” can continue to offer the very best and most complete list of songs with a girl’s name in the title or lyrics; songs about a girl with a certain name: a girl’s name song. Thank you!

Why a separate UK site?
What is the difference?

The UK is the second largest source of visitors to girlsnamesongs.com and since we link song names to Amazon, and they do business geographically and have separate sites for the UK and the USA, we made a UK-specific site to give UK visitors the same benefits that USA visitors enjoy. So, that’s the main difference: it is the same list of songs just with different links so that UK visitors have links to Amazon.co.uk. The two other important differences between the sites are 1.) the most popular baby girl names, and 2.) the top 40 love songs with a girl’s name in the title. Those two lists are, of course, distinctly different for the two regions.

Charity:  It’s been said that it takes a village to raise a child. I also think the village would be well served to ensure the health and well-being of the child’s mother and to assure a healthy birth so that the child has a better chance of reaching responsible adulthood. This we do, not just for the benefit of the child, but for the enrichment of the entire village. Happy, healthy, productive people benefit all of society, and it starts with a healthy childbirth and happy mother. djd
